Description

This project is consultancy services for updating of existing master plan of sewerage and sanitation, formulating a feasibility study on construction of a sewerage system targeting Paranaque City, Las Pinas City, and five adjoining coastal towns of Cavite Province including Cavite City in Metro Manila. Various sewage treatment technologies and processes were reviewed and a selection was made on the suitable technology for the project considering constraints of available space for the facilities at the identified sites. Various alternative cases of sewage and sludge treatments and facilities were formulated for the full project target areas, including the estimation of construction and operation / maintenance costs. From the selection criteria, the alternative cases were ranked and the best case was selected.

This project is the preliminary conception study for improving water quality of Fangauta Lagoon located in the Tongatapu Island where the capital city, Nuku'alofa is situated. The water quality of the lagoon has been deteriorating due to an increasing pollutant load primarily from urbanization and changing lifestyle. Recently, unidentified odors are occurring at different locations along the lagoon. Since relatively little tidal exchange is made between the lagoon and the surrounding ocean, the water pollution in the lagoon has been accelerated. As a result of the preliminary study, OEC recommended a strategy which shall be developed into 2 phases: the short term program and the long term program.

For the treatment plant, the planned population of the target year 2001 is about 320,000 persons, the treatment capacity in the 1st phase is 70,000m3/day and that of extension for future is 30,000m3/day. As the sewage treatment method, the secondary treatment based on conventional activated sludge process was selected, which treats in combination with domestic and industrial wastewater. In sludge treatment, the digested sludge is to be dewatered and sludge cake is to be returned to farmland or reused for land-fill, and the digested gas is to be reused to heat the digester.

As a part of this infrastructure project, Kajoa sewage treatment plant was designed by OEC in order to treat both domestic wastewater discharging from the urban areas and industrial wastewater discharging from the surrounding industrial complex. As of the target year of 2001, the design service population is estimated to be 654,000, and the estimated design flow is 370,000m3/day.

Project involves the design and construction of a sewage treatment plant to prevent water pollution, maintain a healthy living environment and increase the usage of water in the lower regions of the Naktonggang River, which serves as the water supply of the larger part of southeastern Korea. The sewage treated by the Dalseocheon plant consists of municipal and industrial wastewater. The industrial wastewater is particularly high in pollutant concentration, and is greater in amount. Furthermore, it contains heavy metals, so different methods were planned for its treatment. The plant capacity as of 1991 is to be 250,000m3/day, and the final capacity as of 2001 is 380,000m3/day. The treatment methods are conventional activated sludge for wastewater, and anaerobic digestion for sludge.

This project is the consulting service for developing the sewerage systems in the three cities of Korea, where the amount of wastewater discharged from industrial areas and residential areas had increased strikingly by rapid modernization and industrialization. In late 1978, OEC was retained by Korean consulting firms and asked to prepare the necessary master plans and feasibility studies for three sewage treatment plants. The required data for this project, such as topographical maps, reports on water quality analysis, treatment plant inflow restriction and other information was provided to OEC by the Korean consulting firms. The three master plans were completed in 1979.

This project involves the provision of technical advice for the construction of a sewerage system to maintain the water quality of the lower regions of Han River which has been increasingly polluted by municipal and industrial waste water. The survey area was 59,100 ha in size and within the city of Seoul, and the targeted year of completion is 2001.

Direct objectives of this survey and study
-supplemental assistance to update the current master plan
-conduct feasibility study for sewerage and sanitation improvement project,
-collection of environmental information and basic data of sewerage and sanitation,
-Prepare alternatives of sewerage and sanitation system project components in catchment areas with conceptual designs and cost estimates as investment project packages, and -prepare the project implementation and operation/maintenance plan in the project areas to be realized by Japan ODA fund.
